Signatures · old portals · the tightest cap

Compress an image to 10 KB.

10 KB is the harshest limit on Indian forms — usually the signature field. This page pre-sets the compressor to 10 KB and spends every byte on what matters: the ink strokes, or the face.

Where 10 KB actually shows up

  • Signature fields, SSC and banking family: 10–20 KB, JPG, black ink on white.
  • Legacy portals: older state PSC and job-board upload fields that still cap photos at 10 KB.
  • University LMS avatars and email signature images, where 10 KB keeps pages fast.

At 10 KB, cropping beats compressing

A 10 KB JPEG of a full-frame photo smears into mush — no encoder setting rescues it. Crop to the strokes (signature) or head-and-shoulders (photo) before encoding: every pixel you delete is budget the detail keeps. For signatures, prefer the signature tool: transparent PNG under 20 KB is what most upload fields expect.

Expert trap: re-compressing a file that already fits

JPEG re-encoding is a generation loss. If your file is already 9 KB, running it through any compressor again only removes detail — it cannot add safety. Check the size first; compress only when you are over the cap.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10 KB enough for a readable signature?

Yes. Black ink on white is high-contrast, so a tightly cropped 140 × 60 px signature stays sharp at 6–10 KB. Colour photographs at 10 KB are face-only crops at best.

Which portals still cap photos at 10 KB?

Mostly legacy state PSC and older job portals; modern exam portals moved to 20–50 KB. Signature fields across SSC, IBPS, SBI and RBI remain in the 10–30 KB band. Always confirm against your notification.

Why does my 10 KB PNG get rejected?

Photo fields usually validate MIME type and expect JPEG; a PNG renamed to .jpg fails server-side. Choose JPEG output here. PNG is correct only for transparent signatures.

Does the tool pad the file to exactly 10 KB?

No. The cap is a ceiling and padding bytes add no quality. If your portal enforces a range instead, fill the Minimum KB field and the tool raises quality — or enlarges — to land inside the band.

Can I print a photo after compressing to 10 KB?

No — 10 KB discards print-level detail. Keep the original for printing and upload the compressed copy only where the cap applies.
