For every Indian form — not just passports

Correct centimetres. Correct kilobytes.

The passport page targets the strict 3.5×4.5 cm spec. This photo maker is for the other 80%: SSC, Aadhaar, university, job portals, visa uploads — any photo where you need to fix centimetres, pixels, background and kilobytes in one step, in your browser.

cm → px: the table that stops rejections

Pixels = centimetres × DPI ÷ 2.54. If your notification says “200 × 230 px” do not calculate from cm — use the digital box exactly. If it says “3.5 × 4.5 cm” pick 300 DPI for print, 150–200 DPI for screen verification.

Fix background and KB without a photo studio

  1. Background first. Shoot against a plain white wall in daylight, no shadow. The tool can whiten a light-grey wall but cannot rescue a cream wall without softening the face — source matters more than the slider.
  2. Pick the pixel box. Choose the row above that matches your notification. For e-Visa, crop square (350–1000 px) — the 300 KB image page validates square strictly.
  3. Apply the KB cap. SSC 20–50 KB: set Maximum 50 Minimum 20. Passport digital: ≤50 KB. University: 100 KB. The compressor binary-searches quality first, shrinks pixels only if needed.
  4. Check the bytes, not Explorer’s rounding. UnderKB shows the real validator number in bytes/KB. “20 KB” in Explorer can be 20.9 KB on the server.

This page outputs JPEG — correct for almost every photo upload field. For transparent signatures, use the signature tool (PNG). Uploading a signature JPEG where the portal expects transparent PNG is a common rejection.

When to use this page vs Passport size photo

Use Passport size photo when your notification says exactly “3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background, ≤50 KB” and you want a one-click preset that never diverges from that line.

Use this Photo maker when the portal says anything else: “200 × 230 px”, “2.5 × 3.5 cm”, “square 350–1000 px”, “≤100 KB”, or lists a band. This page exposes cm, px and KB so you can match the notification word for word.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Photo and Passport size photo?

Passport size photo is a one-click preset for exactly 3.5×4.5 cm white-background ≤50 KB. Photo is the generic maker where you set centimetres, pixels, background and KB yourself — for SSC 200×230 px, e-Visa squares, Aadhaar, university and any other spec.

How do I convert 3.5×4.5 cm to pixels?

Pixels = cm × DPI ÷ 2.54. At 300 DPI, 3.5×4.5 cm = 413×531 px (print). At 144 DPI it is ~200×230 px (SSC digital). If the notification gives a digital box like 200×230 px, use that exactly and ignore the cm calculation.

Can this tool make the background white?

It can whiten a light, even background in the browser. It cannot cleanly fix a cream wall, a shadow across the face, or a busy room — shoot against a plain white wall in daylight before you upload.

What KB should I choose for SSC?

SSC CGL/GD/CHSL photos are 20–50 KB. Set Maximum 50 and Minimum 20 so the file lands inside the band. A 14 KB file fails SSC even though it is “under 50 KB”.

Does it upload my photo?

No. The crop, background pass, resizing and KB search all run in this tab with Canvas/WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
